Long ago, the gods held a race around the whole world. Whoever finished first would win a magical fruit.
Ganesha's brother zoomed off on his peacock, flying over oceans and mountains.
But Ganesha, riding his little mouse, could not go fast at all. Instead, he thought for a moment.
He walked slowly around his mother and father, and bowed. "You two are my whole world," he said with a smile.
The gods were amazed by his wisdom and gave Ganesha the fruit. His brother returned tired, having circled the earth for nothing.
